At the Rajshahi Shilpokala Academy, more than 2,120 students from 49 schools came together to celebrate a remarkable journey of reading, learning, and personal growth through the Grameenphone-Bishwo Shahitto Kendro (BSK) Book Reading Program. The event recognized students whose dedication to books has nurtured imagination, critical thinking, and a lifelong passion for learning.
Yet the celebration represented something greater than academic achievement alone.
As young people increasingly learn, connect, and explore through digital platforms, literacy today extends beyond reading books. It also includes the ability to navigate the online world safely and responsibly. Recognizing this evolving reality, the event integrated Online Safety Fundamentals sessions, equipping students with practical knowledge on safe internet practices, digital responsibility, and protecting themselves in an increasingly connected world.
The learning extended beyond the students. Through an interactive Online Safety Corner, parents and teachers engaged in discussions around digital opportunities, online risks, and the important role adults play in guiding children toward positive digital experiences. By fostering awareness among both young users and their support networks, the initiative aimed to create a safer and more informed digital environment for all.
Every book a child reads opens a gateway to new ideas, perspectives, and opportunities. Today, those opportunities extend across both physical and digital spaces. As technology becomes an integral part of education and everyday life, ensuring that children can access and benefit from the digital world safely is essential to unlocking their full potential.
Our partnership with Bishwo Shahitto Kendro (BSK) began with a shared vision of inspiring a love for reading among young people. Over the years, that vision has grown into a broader commitment to empower future generations with not only knowledge and curiosity, but also the awareness, confidence, and skills needed to thrive in a digitally connected society.
By bringing together literacy promotion and digital safety education, we are helping young learners become informed readers, responsible digital citizens, and confident contributors to the future.
